Dr. Albert Gay

Albert G. Gay, M.D., 53, of Washington Court House, Ohio died Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at 11:45 a.m. at Mount Carmel West in Columbus where he had been a patient since Saturday.

Dr. Gay was born September 25, 1959 in Jacksonville, FL to Hubert Reeves and Jean Salmon Gay, Jr. He was a 1977 graduate of North Augusta (SC) High School and received a presidential appointment of West Point for the summer session. He received a bachelor’s degree in engineering and physics in 1983 from Abilene Christian College and his medical degree from the University of Texas at San Antonio in 1992. He served his internship and residency at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Dayton. He served briefly in the Navy and was in the Air Force 1995-1999.

He began a family practice in Jeffersonville in 1996 and moved to Washington Court House in 1999. He was with the Jamestown Family Practice from 2005-2008. In 2008 he became a family physician at Fayette County Memorial Hospital and had been a hospitalist at Fayette County Memorial Hospital since 2011. He has also been the medical director at Court House Manor since 2004. He has served as Fayette County Coroner since 2002 and was a certified forensics investigator.

Dr. Gay was a member of the Ohio and American Medical Associations, the American Medical Director’s Association; the Ohio Coroner’s Association and the Buckeye State Sheriffs’ Association and was the medical representative on the Fayette County Board of Health. He was recently recognized by the American Board of Family Medicine for assisting in the development of the passing standards for the 2011 MC-FP examinations.

He was a member of the Crossroads Christian Church and the Kiwanis Club of Washington Court House. He was an Eagle Scout and loved to hunt, fish, play golf, read and write.

Dr. Gay was preceded in death by his parents and a half brother, Allen Gay.

He is survived by his wife, the former Mary L. Lopez whom he married August 17, 1979; four children, Crystal Gay of Dayton, Melody Gay, Daniel Gay and Emily Gay, all of Washington Court House; two grandchildren, Harmony Gay and Feodore Gabriel Fowler; a brother, Raymond Gay of North Augusta, SC; a sister, Wanda Gay of Aiken, SC; a half sister, Jackie Ligdon of Charlotte, NC; two aunts, Betty Mixon of North Augusta and Sue Baxley of Aiken and several cousins.

The funeral will be Monday, March 11, 2013, at 1 p.m. at the Crossroads Christian Church, 175 Halliday Drive, with Todd Maurer, pastor at the church, officiating. Burial will follow in the Washington Cemetery.

Friends may call at the church Sunday from 2-7 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Washington Court House.
