James “Bud” Roy Mossbarger Jr., age 71, of Washington CH, passed away on Sunday, February 10, 2013 at his home.

He was born on September 21, 1941 in Fayette County to James and Mary Wilson Mossbarger, both deceased. He was a lifelong resident of Washington CH. James had retired from Madison Corrections. He had worked part time at Community Market. James was a member of the Southside Church of Christ. He also proudly served in the United States Navy during peace time.

Survivors include his wife Carolyn Sue Bane Mossbarger, whom he married on February 12, 1961 his children Randy Lee (Angie) Mossbarger, DeAnna Faulker (Kyle Gilmore) both of Washington CH and Tara Dawn Hayner (Randy Gonzales) of Paulding; 9 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren; siblings Norma Jean (Junior) Pendergraft of Washington CH, Mary Lou Knisley of Chillicothe and Frances (Jerry) Crawford of Washington CH as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

The funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 14, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Summers Funeral Home with Ray Vance officiating with burial to follow at the Washington Cemetery. Friends may call at the Southside Church of Christ on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 from 4-8 p.m.


Glenn “Mose” Merritt, 85

Glenn “Mose” Merritt, age 85, of Washington CH, passed away at the Fayette County Memorial Hospital on Thursday, February 7, 2013.

He was born on January 22, 1928 in Fayette County to Mose and Della Cox Merritt. He had worked as a carpenter for many years and retired from Elford Construction. Glenn proudly served in the United States Army. He was a 55 year member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and a life member of the American Legion Post #25.

Glenn was proceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary Margaret Tway Merritt and siblings Fred Merritt, Nelly Ruggles, Louis Merritt, Elsie Siegel, Herman Merritt, Bernadine Wachtel and Ernest Merritt.

Survivors include his children Andrew Merritt and his wife Diane of Grove City, Ohio and daughter Leah Anne Gonzales and her husband Ted of San Mateo, California; grandchildren Matt and Henry Merritt of Grove City and Krista and Tyler Gonzales of San Mateo, California; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Stephanie and David Krupla of Jeffersonville, Ohio, sister-in-law Dorothy Merritt of Chillicothe, Ohio; special niece Joyce Stone of West Palm Beach, Florida; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

The funeral service will be held on Friday, February 15, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Summers Funeral Home with Danny Dodds officiating with burial to follow at the Cochran Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4-8 p.m.

Sarah Frances Anschutz, 81

Sarah Frances Anschutz, 81, of Washington C.H., Ohio, died Friday, February 8, 2013, at 2:05 p.m. at Fayette County Memorial Hospital where she had been a patient four days.

Sarah was born December 15, 1931, in New Market, Ohio to Willard William and Ida Pauly Vance.

She was a bookkeeper and for 25 years assisted her husband in the operation of the Washington Auction House.  She had also worked for Ruth Witherspoon Accountant.

Sarah was a member of the Madison Mills United Methodist Church and the ladies auxiliary of Washington C.H. Lodge #129 of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Ervin Anschutz on June 9, 2011.

Sarah is survived by five children, Randy Anschutz and his wife, Colleen, of New Vienna, Alan Anschutz of Washington C.H., Debra Kelly of Kirksville, MO, Melissa (Missy) Anschutz of New Holland and her fiancée, Rankin Kirkpatrick and Tina Higgins and her husband, Steve, of Washington C.H.; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, John William and Lavonne Melvin of Madison Mills and a sister, Wilma Iles of Cincinnati.

In keeping with her wishes, cremation took place.

Arrangements for a graveside service, to be held in the Madison Mills Cemetery, are pending and will be announced by the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Washington C. H. when details are finalized.

Carl R. Elberfeld, 88, of Washington Court House, Ohio, died Sunday, February 17, 2013, at 12:05 p.m. at Court House Manor.

Carl was born August 5, 1924, in Ironton, Ohio to Raymond and Ethel Ratliff Elberfeld. He grew up in Greenfield, Ohio where he was a graduate of Edward Lee McClain High School. He attended Miami (Ohio) University where he played football.

He was an investment broker for over 50 years.

Carl was a member of First Christian Church/Crossroads Christian Church for over 50 years and served as a deacon for many years. He was a World War II Army veteran; was a former member of the Washington Court House Rotary Club and was an avid golfer and sports fan.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Jack and Ralph Elberfeld.

Carl is survived by his wife, the former Maxine Badgley whom he married August 3, 1946; a son and daughter-in-law, David and Marcia Elberfeld and a daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Gordon Lowe, all of Washington Court House; five grandchildren, Christy Mycroft and her husband, Brian, Tim Elberfeld, Stacey Lewis and her husband, Eric, Brian Lowe, and Sarah Boehm and her husband, Justin; nine great grandchildren and a brother and sister-in-law, Don and Betty Elberfeld of Springfield, Ohio.

The funeral will be Thursday, February 21, 2013 at 2 p.m. at the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Washington Court House with Todd Maurer, minister at the Crossroads Christian Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 5-8 p.m.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Crossroads Christian Church, 175 Halliday Drive, Washington Court House, Ohio 43160.

Tillie Theresa Wilt, age 57, of Washington CH, passed away on Friday, February 15, 2013 at 9:58 pm at the Riverside Methodist Hospital.

She was born on August 28, 1955 in Greene County to Ralph and Mary Buck Lute. Tillie had spent all of her life in the area.

Tillie was proceded in death by her parents, siblings Tina Armentrout, Mary Lou Spurlock and Ralph Lute.

Survivors include her husband Dennis “Denny” Wilt Sr., whom she married on September 20, 1975; children Dennis Jr. (Amy) Wilt of Sabina and James (Jaime) Wilt of Washington CH, 9 grandchildren, siblings Kent (Sue) Lute, Johnny Lute and Linda (Bob) Schladebeck.

A memorial service will be held at a later day at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of the Summers Funeral Home.


Glenn Roy Thompson, 79

Glenn Roy Thompson, 79, of Conway, SC, formerly of Washington Court House, died Wednesday, February 20, 2013, at 12:45 p.m. at the McLeod-Loris Hospital in Loris, SC where he had been a patient the past week.

Mr. Thompson was born January 25, 1934, in Fayette County, near Sabina, Ohio to Floyd and Hester Harris Thompson.  He lived most of his life in Washington Court House before moving to South Carolina in 2000.

He had worked at Morris Bean of Cedarville; formerly was a parts store clerk at Roney Auto Parts and later worked at Mid-Ohio Chemical for 12 years before his retirement in 1996.

Mr. Thompson was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Conway and the National Rifle Association.

He was preceded in death by his parents; by a brother, Johnny Thompson and two sisters, Minnie Stevens and Ruby Parrett.

Mr. Thompson is survived by his wife, the former Barbara Ruth Sells whom he married Sept. 21, 1955; a daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and William Heustess of Conway, SC; two grandchildren, John Philip and Bethany Heustess; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Vernon and Barbara Thompson of Wilmington, OH, Jimmy and Pat Thompson of Leesburg, OH and Bobby and Mary Ann Thompson of Washington C.H. and four sisters, Tillie Dunn and her husband, Dale, and Edna Cowman and her husband, Jimmy, all of Washington Court House, Betty Huff of Sewanee, Georgia and Donna Martindale and her husband, Bob, of Columbus, Ohio.

The funeral will be Monday, February 25, 2013, at 10 a.m. at the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Washington Court House with the Rev. William Heustess, son-in-law of Mr. Thompson, officiating.  Burial will follow in the Milledgeville-Plymouth Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 2-4 p.m.

Mary Marguerite Wood, 89, of New Holland, Ohio died Saturday, February 23, 2013 at 6:16 p.m. at her residence.

Marguerite was born October 12, 1923 in Fayette County, Ohio to William Melvin and Bessie Mae Funk Kearns.  She lived most of her life in the New Holland community where she was a member of the New Holland Church of Christ.

She had formerly worked at Calmar in Washington Court House.

Marguerite was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers and four sisters.

She is survived by her husband, Frank Richard Wood whom she married  March 31, 1942; four children, Margaret A. Wynkoop of Circleville, Karen Gerhardt and her husband, Richard, and Frank (Rick) Wood, Jr. and his wife, Rita, all of New Holland and Pam McCune of Washington Court House; seven grandchildren, Joni (David) Chamberlin, Tina (Carey Sherrill) Carter, Craig (Suzie) Gerhardt, Krista (Larry) Hott, Drew Maddux, Ricky Wood III and Rana (Tom) Helms; 12 great grandchildren; a brother, Homer Kearns of Springfield; a sister, Julie Evans of New Vienna and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

The funeral will be Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. at the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Washington Court House with Richard A. Matthews, minister at the New Holland Church of Christ, officiating.  Burial will follow in the New Holland Cemetery.

Michael Lee Morris, age 63, of Washington CH, passed away on Thursday, February 21, 2013 at his home.

He was born on June 13, 1949 in Fayette County to Leroy and Loraine Hudnell Morris (both deceased). He had worked at Rent-to-Own for several years. He formerly worked with the Civil Defense and FEMA.

Survivors include his siblings Robert Morris of Bloomingburg, Lee (Sandra) Morris of Leesburg, Cathy (Joe) Camp, Hope Diaz, Karol (Joe) Benitez all of Columbus and Susan (Johnny) Frisbee of Springfield as well as several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Also surviving are special friends Bernice Grooms and Frank Stolzenburg of Washington CH as well as their grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 28, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at the Summers Funeral Home with Jeremy Griffith officiating. Burial will follow at the Bloomingburg Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 11-1 p.m.

Hazel L. Wilson, 72 of South Charleston, Ohio formerly of South Vienna, Ohio passed away Sunday morning, February 24, 2013 at Springfield Regional Medical Center in Springfield. She was born March 3, 1940 in South Vienna, Ohio, to Lawrence and Marie Hines Davey.

In addition to her husband, James R. Wilson she was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, one brother and one great grandson.

Mrs. Wilson is survived by a daughter, Connie Wilson, South Vienna, two sons, Roger Wilson of South Charleston, Phillip (Kathy) Wilson of Jeffersonville, her grandchildren, Heather Jo Sollars, Mike (Charlene) Wilson, Cheri (Chris) Bateson and thirteen great grandchildren, and a sister,Helen Rockhold of Springfield, Ohio.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday, February 27 at 1:30 PM at the Fairview Cemetery in Jeffersonville with Danny Dodds officiating. There will be no visitation.

Edith Sharrett, 96, of Jeffersonville, passed away at Kingston of Miami Nursing Home in Miamisburg on Monday, February 25, 2013. She was born January 4, 1917 in Jeffersonville to Chester and Leota Knull Knisley. She was a homemaker and a member of the Jeffersonville United Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Sharrett was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Sharrett, and a brother, Ancil Knisley and her sister, Lucille Bartley.

Mrs. Sharrett is survived by her daughter, Shirley (Ed) Straley of Franklin, Ohio, three grandchildren, Cindy Bulpin of Miamisburg, Brenda (Dr. Robert) Stofer of Centerville and Mark (Jan) Straley of New Jersey, six great grandchildren; Kimberly Darner, Brittany (Josh) Simon, Bob Stofer, Amanda (Jason) Hess, Allison Straley and Matthew Straley, two great great grandchildren, Mackenzie Darner, Brodrick “Brody” Simon and a brother in law, Lindy (Sara) Sharrett.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 1 at 1:00 p.m at the Morrow Funeral Home in Jeffersonville with Pastor Tom Knauff of the Jeffersonville United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery. Friends may call at the Jeffersonville Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m until the time of the service.

Donna June Lindsey, age 72, of Washington CH, passed away on Monday, February 25, 2013 at 4:16 p.m. at her home.

She was born on June 29, 1940 in Fayette County to Walter and Louise Duncan Tolle-Penwell. She spent all of her life in this area. She attended the Jeffersonville Community Church.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents, her husband James Lindsey and brother, Robert Tolle.

Survivors include her children Mark Lindsey, James Lindsey and Tony Lindsey step-children Ron (Angela) Leisure and Rick Leisure; step-father George Penwell; grandchildren Cammy Brown, Joshua, Mitchell, Taylor and Bailey Lindsey, Moriah, Erin and Ashley Leisure; great-grandchildren Hunter Brown and Aubrey Lindsey; siblings Mary (Buck) Kingery, Janet Cassidy, Evelyn Brightman, Steven (Virginia) Tolle, Carolyn Jones and George Allen Penwell as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

The funeral service will be held on Friday, March 1, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Summers Funeral Home with Lula Rhoades officiating with burial to follow at the Washington Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4-8 p.m.


Howard Miller, 88

Howard Miller, 88, of Washington C.H., passed away on Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at Mt. Carmel East Hospital in Columbus. Mr. Miller was born February 8, 1925 in Dayton, Ohio to the late Howard R. and Dorothy S. Shank Miller. Mr. Miller was married to Naomi Ferneau Miller on January 25, 1947

He was the owner of Howard Miller Realty. He started with Mac Dews Real Estate in 1961 and was Developer President of Emerald Glen, Inc. 1976-86, which was the beginning of the residential building in the Storybrook Addition. He was a broker, an appraiser and The Director of the Fayette Metropolitan Housing Authority from 1980-1986.

He served in the Army during World War II from 1943-1945 and saw action in several campaigns, including the assault into Holland with the 101st Airborne Division and the Battle of the Bulge.

Mr. Miller was a member and Past Master of Fayette Lodge #107 F& A.M., Master in 1978. He was a member of , Scottish Rite, Valley of Columbus, Ohio, Council, Aladdin Temple, A.A.O.N.M.S., 32nd Degree Mason, Fayette County Shrine Club, , Elks Lodge #129 BPOE, and American Legion Post #25, WCH, a member of the Fayette County Choral Society, a former member of Washington Rotary Club, a member of the Washington Country Club since 1955 and on the Board of Directors for 3 years, Fayette Co. Board of Realtors since 1962 and President in 1971, and an Ambassador for the Fayette County Chamber of Commerce 1970-1973. Mr. Miller was a member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church since 1957 and a Warden and Vestryman for 12 years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a step sister, Geraldine Newman and a great grand son Connor Preston Beery.

In addition to his wife he is survived by a brother James Miller of New Lebanon, a son, Robert H.(Dee) Miller of Canal Winchester, two granddaughters, Mindy Beery of Pickerington and Kim(Barry) Caldwell of Etna, and two great grandchildren Travis and Emma Beery.

A committal service will be at 11:30 a.m, Thursday, March 7, 2013 at the Washington Cemetery , 1741 Washington Ave. Washington Court House Ohio 43160. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m on Thursday at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church with the Reverend Gayle Hansen Browne officiating. . There will be a reception following the service at St. Andrew’s Church.

Edward Leroy “Eddie” Mitchell, 88

Edward Leroy “Eddie” Mitchell, 88, of Washington C.H. died Friday, March 1, 2013, at 10:34 a.m. at the Country Glenn Nursing and Therapy Center where he had been a resident since April 2007.

Eddie was born October 16, 1924, in London, Ohio to Walter and Rose Harris Mitchell.

He was a graduate of Washington High School where he was a star football player.   He lived most of his life in this community.

Before his retirement, he was an expeditor at the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton.

Eddie was a manager with the Washington Little League from its inception in 1955 until 2007.  He was inducted in the Washington Little League Hall of Fame. He also coached Pony League football for several years and was an avid Ohio State fan.

He was a World War II Navy veteran and served aboard the USS West Point and was a member of Homer Lawson Post #653 of the American Legion.

Eddie was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Ben Mitchell and a sister, Alice Davis.

He is survived by his wife, the former Iola Lorie Davis; a son, Mike Mitchell of Savannah, GA; six grandsons, Scott Mitchell and his wife, Nicole, of Washington C.H., Mike Mitchell of Savannah, Marc Kelley of Rogers City, MI, Justin Kelley who is stationed with the U.S. Air Force in the state of Washington, Quinton Lucas of Savannah and Alex Mitchell of Cincinnati.

The funeral will be Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at 1 p.m. at the Second Baptist Church, 828 Columbus Avenue, with the Rev. Lester Sanders, Jr., pastor at the church, officiating.  Burial will follow in the Washington Cemetery.

Friends may call at the church from 11 a.m. Wednesday until time of the service.

He was born on June 23, 1979 to Robert and Inez Lyons Ingles.

Brian is survived by his parents, his wife Lisa Adrian Ingles, whom he married on October 27, 2001; his children Austin, Alexa, Rylan and Christian; sister Kathy Lyons as well as Aunts and Uncles, a niece and two nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

Melissa J.Templin Lower, 52, of Greenfield, died unexpectedly Saturday, March 2, 2013 at Fayette Memorial Hospital, Washington C.H. She was born September 20, 1960, in Washington C.H. the daughter of John H. and Ruth Adams Templin.

She is survived by her father; John H. Templin of Greenfield, two sons; Kyle and Tyler Lower both at home, five brothers; John H. (Carol) Templin of Wilmington, Ralph “Woody” Templin of Washington C.H., Douglas (Kathy) Templin, Dennis (Teri) Templin all of Greenfield, Robert “Bobby” (Rita) Templin of Good Hope, her son’s father; Mike Lower of Jeffersonville and several nieces and nephews. Melissa was preceded in death by her mother, Ruth Templin.

Melissa was a 1978 graduate of Miami Trace High School. She was secretary at the Garman Feed and Supply Co in Lyndon . Melissa was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church of Washington C.H.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 8, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. in the ANDERSON-EBRIGHT FUNERAL HOME, Greenfield with Pastor Joe Current officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Frankfort. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the account that has been set up at any Merchants National Bank, to assist her sons. Ruth Anna Daniel Page passed away Monday, March 4, 2013 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus and is survived by her husband Ben B. Page. Formerly of the Fairview and Lees Creek communities, Ruth Anna was a 35-year resident of Washington Court House, Ohio and active in the Commission on Aging Senior Center. Born October 15, 1922 in Wilmington, Ohio, she was the daughter of Joseph and Bertha Woods Daniel. Sisters Helen Louise Daniel Curtis and Mary Ellen Daniel Dailey preceded her in death.

A graduate of Wilmington High School and the Miller School of Business in Cincinnati, Ruth Anna began her working career at Wright Patterson Air Force Base. She traded in this business career to become a farm homemaker when she married Ben on August 15, 1943. They recently celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary. Also surviving is son Gary L. Page (Connie) with grandsons Brian (Hope) Page and Scott (Kristen) Page; son Wayne E. Page (Laura) with granddaughters Miranda (Richard) Hasselman and Allison (Clay) Shrieves; and daughter Rebecca A. Hadley (Herb) with granddaughters Chelsea (Yancy) Galutia and Dorian (Bill) Auld. Ten great grandchildren have also blessed this marriage.

Active in the Fairview Friends Meeting in New Vienna, Ohio, Ruth Anna served as Treasurer for many years and also chaired a number of committees of the Wilmington Yearly Meeting including those associated with Indian missions and the Quaker Bakers at the annual Clinton County Corn Festival. The Pages adopted the Wyandotte and Kickapoo Indian Oklahoma missions by delivering tons of clothing collected from the many Friends Meetings in Clinton and Highland Counties over a 25-year period.

An avid swimmer, Ruth Anna obtained the Red Cross Life Guard and Water Safety Instructor certifications after the age of 40. She ran the usual farm wife taxi service for her children and neighborhood children escorting them to numerous activities such as 4-H, scouts, swimming, dance, sports, and church activities. Ruth Anna and Ben traveled extensively from coast-to-coast visiting family and friends. She once again used her business training in a 13-year career at Clinton County Air Force Base.

Continuing a lifetime of giving, Ruth Anna has donated her body to support medical education at The Ohio State University School of Medicine. A celebration of her life will be held March 16, 2013, 2 pm at Fairview Friends Meeting 6796 Antioch Rd, New Vienna, Ohio 45159. Fellowship with the family will be held immediately following.
